Utility location service avoids costly repairs

Spring’s approach is sending many yard enthusiasts to the tool shed.

But before you get the jump on those projects, be sure you know what’s beneath the surface in your yard.

Thousands of people damage underground utilities each year. An “underground utilities locate” prevents damage, extra costs and potential injuries from what the excavation industry calls a “dig in.”

Problems can be prevented by a single phone call to the Utility Notification Center, also known as the “One Call Center.” The One Call Center notifies underground utility owners so they can mark the location of underground pipes, cables and wires within two business days.

The service is free. In Oregon, call 800-332-2344. In Washington, call 800-424-5555.

Call the Utility Notification Center at least two full business days before your project.
