CHENOWITH WATER PUD

Chenowith Water PUD water system is located in north-central Wasco County. The system abuts the City of The Dalles on the city’s northwest side. The PUD provides water to the Chenowith, Columbia Crest and Murray’s Addition areas, which have a current population of approximately 4,500 people. The current system represents a merger of three prior water system, the primary entity being the original Chenowith Water PUD, the two annexed systems were the former Columbia Crest and Lower Chenowith Water Districts. Completed in December 2007 was an intertie pipeline connecting all three systems into one public water system.

The service area encompasses approximately 1215 acres, contains 120,000 feet of distribution water main, 125 fire hydrants and over 300 gate valves in addition to the 1300 metered accounts which are mostly residential with some commercial.

The district currently owns four (4) wells, two of which are primary sources and two smaller sites are backup. Treatment facilities consist of aeration chamber, Iron & Manganese filtration and chlorine for residual maintenance. Current plans are in process for drilling of additional well. Gravity fed system from five (5) reservoirs totaling 1.9MG of storage. Several booster pumps & lift stations along with a few PRV’s are scattered throughout the system.

The District is governed by a five (5) member elected Board of Directors. The Board works closely with the District Manager who in turn directs a staff of six (6), four in the field and two in the office.
